IV Therapy Q & A

What is IV therapy?

Intravenous (IV) therapy involves flooding your body with hydration and concentrated nutrients to improve natural processes that occur on a daily basis. Though you get many of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients you need through your diet or from taking dietary supplements, a lot of these vital nutrients are lost during digestion.

As an example, vitamin B-12 requires a protein known as an intrinsic factor from your stomach to properly metabolize. If you don’t have an adequate intrinsic factor, your body may pass along that essential B-12 through waste, which results in lower-than-normal B-12 levels.

IV therapy involves putting B vitamins, magnesium, calcium, amino acids, and several other nutrients into a water-based solution. By placing an IV line directly into your vein, you can restore your nutrient levels in your blood, so cells have immediate access to them. IV therapy entirely bypasses your digestive system.

What are the benefits of IV therapy?

Waco Primary Care offers personalized IV therapy treatments to help you with a wide variety of health issues. Dr. Trippe finds that IV therapy is beneficial for:

  • Boosting energy levels
  • Decreasing chronic pain
  • Improving immune functions
  • Recovering from sports and exercise
  • Enhancing metabolism processes
  • Treating dehydration and hangovers

IV therapy is also highly beneficial for anyone struggling with nutrient deficiency issues because of malabsorption-related conditions, including Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

How often can I have IV therapy?

It depends on your overall health and what you’re trying to achieve. For example, if you’re a competitive athlete, Dr. Trippe may recommend coming in to Waco Primary Care once or twice a week after intense training sessions

In general, though, weekly or biweekly IV therapy sessions are beneficial. Over time as your health starts improving, you may only need IV therapy treatments once or twice a month. Dr. Trippe can let you know how often you should schedule IV therapy to enhance your wellbeing.
